چکیده

Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is a nuclear protein that regulates DNA synthesis by DNA polymerase delta, and is essential for DNA replication. PCNA expression level is related to the malignancy of gastric cancer cells. Seven different gastric cancer cell lines and two kinds of control cell lines were treated with antisense oligonucleotides complementary to the messenger RNA of PCNA. Treatment of each gastric cancer cell line with antisense oligonucleotides at concentration of 10-40IM inhibited the cell growth, colony formation and PCNA protein production in a dose-dependent manner, but only affected normal cells slightly. A random sequence oligomer showed no effect. These results show that PCNA is essential for gastric cancer cell proliferation and that the use of synthetic oligonucleotides is an effective way of producing antisense-mediated changes in the behaviour of human gastric cancers.

A comparison of linear transect and capture recapture methods results in Iranian Jerboa population density and abundance estimation in Mirabad plains, Shahreza

During a period from spring 2008 till fall 2010, Iranian Jerboa population abundance was estimated using distance (linear transect) and capture-recapture methods in the Mirabad plains near Shahreza city in Isfahan Province. In the study period, during the active time of the species except reproduction time, we tried to live-trap, mark, release and recapture individuals based on Schnabel method ...

Dynamics of habitat changes as a result of climate change in Zagros Mountains Range (Iran), a case study on Amphibians

Climate change is currently considered a serious threat for many species and recognized as one of the most important factors in the global biodiversity loss. Among animal groups, amphibians are known to be among the most sensitive groups of vertebrates to climate change due to their inability to travel long distances, and mountain habitat species are more exposed to climate change pressures tha...

Understorey bird responses to the edge-interior gradient in an isolated tropical rainforest of Malaysia

Forest fragmentation results in a loss of forest interior and an increase in edge habitat. We studied how understorey bird community composition and habitat variables changed along an edge-to-interior gradient in a 1248-ha lowland rainforest patch in peninsular Malaysia. Birds and environmental variables such as vegetation structure and litter depth were detected within a 25-m radius of each of...

Predicting the Potential Habitat Distribution of Crataegus Pontica C. Koch, Using a Combined Modeling Approach in Lorestan Province

Habitat degradation is one the important reasons of plant species extinction. Modeling techniques are widely used for identifying the potential habitats of different plant species. Thus, the purpose of current study was to determine potential habitats of Zalzalak in Lorestan Province. Species presence data and 23 environmental variables were collected in Lorestan Province. Correlation analysis ...

Estimating the habitat suitability of the genus Alosa in the Caspian Sea using the PATREC method and presence data

In many habitat evaluation methods, the abundance data are used. Such data are not available for many species. However, there is some website that provides the presence data of species that are based on the studies made. The present study used the PATREC method to estimate the habitat suitability of the Caspian Sea for the genus Alosa. The PATREC method needs abundance data to calculate the pri...

Discrepancies in occupancy and abundance approaches to identifying and protecting habitat for an at‐risk species

Predicting how environmental factors affect the distribution of species is a fundamental goal of conservation biology. Conservation biologists rely on species distribution and abundance models to identify key habitat characteristics for species. Occupancy modeling is frequently promoted as a practical alternative to use of abundance in identifying habitat quality. While occupancy and abundance ...
